Dear Friends and Family,

As many of you know, I serve on the board of directors for Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) in Washington, D.C. CHAW provides amazing arts education (visual arts, dance, music) for children (and adults, too) and is committed to providing a safe space where children from different racial, socio-economic, and geographic backgrounds can learn and PLAY together! I feel lucky to have been a student of the arts throughout my childhood, and I believe that it had a huge impact on who I am today.

What I love most about CHAW is that in our nearly 50 year history, we have never turned away a child for inability to pay. I know many of you understand the expenses involved in enrolling a child in a class or sending them to summer camp. Imagine the challenges for families who are homeless or live paycheck to paycheck.

In honor of my birthday this year, I am hoping to raise $1000 for this incredible organization. Since my birthday is 4-1-81, it would be really cool if each of you would consider making a donation of $41.81. If 24 people participate, we would reach the $1K goal! However, any amount is appreciated and goes straight to tuition assistance. I would be ever so grateful if you would consider making a donation for this worthy cause, one that is near and dear to my heart. Your generosity will allow us to reach more children through the arts.

Thank You + A Birthday Match

Thank you to everyone who has donated to my birthday fundraising campaign! I'm grateful that we will collectively impact the lives of children through arts education.

I can't believe that we've reached (and surpassed!) the $1000 goal. Since there are still 12 days left of the campaign, I've decided to personally match 41% of the total amount donated over $1000. So, if we raise $1000 beyond the goal, I will contribute $410. If we raise $500 beyond the goal, I'll contribute $205. I'm excited to see where we end up!

One mother's story about the impact of your generosity!

In just 6 days, you have helped me to raise almost $800. THANK YOU for your generosity! I'm really hoping we can achieve (and possibly even surpass) that $1000 goal. That would be CHAWsome!

I wanted to share something from a parent whose son was able to participate in CHAW's programs due to the tuition assistance program. Her words resonate with me and remind me of how these programs impact children's lives.

“I am truly thankful for the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop and their various forms of support for my son on his artistic journey. We all want what’s best for our children, however as a single parent defining balance for an explorative/inquisitive child and what I can provide doesn’t always coincide. The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop tuition assistance program ensures that my son is afforded the opportunity to experience learning and creating art in ways that amazes me daily. The instructors push him to see beyond what’s in front of him and pull from within him all of the things that make him unique."

What if more children had someone in their life who could allow them to see beyond, dream bigger, and recognize all the qualities that make them special? I can only imagine.
