I, like many of you, am getting older - and hopefully a bit wiser and outward-looking. This year for my dreaded 35th birthday, I would like to do something less-existentially terrifying than contemplating my mortality - I'd like to raise $750 for the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW)!
As you may know, I recently joined the CHAW board of directors, and I am thrilled to help keep this vibrant organization running at full steam. Last year CHAW served over 9,000 students and patrons through 186 different classes and workshops, among other amazing accomplishments - thanks in large part to donations from folks just like you. These donations have enabled CHAW's wonderful faculty and staff to never turn away a potential student for the inability to pay. In 2018, these donations also helped provide over $110,000 in tuition assistance, subsidized rental space, and funded outreach efforts to help homeless youth, displaced young adults, and veterans and their families.
Over the next 35 days, in honor of my 35th birthday, I'm going to be asking folks every so often to consider donating $35 to CHAW. (If 22 people donate, we would reach the goal!) However, any donation amount is appreciated and would help keep this inclusive and inspiring community thriving!
Want to know more about CHAW? Here are some quick facts (or go here for the whole story):
- Founded in 1972;
- The Workshop facility includes a dance studio (which doubles as a recital hall), paint studio, black box theater, art gallery, complete ceramics/pottery studio, a photography darkroom (the only "open" darkroom in D.C.), private music instruction studios, and business office
- Serves more than 9,000 youth and adult students, artists, and patrons each year;
- Has never turned away a student for inability to pay in its nearly 50-year history.
THANK YOU!
