The Institute for Child Development and Family Relations (ICDFR) is dedicated to optimizing the success of student-parents, parents, and children. Our diverse range of programs are tailored to meet the needs of parents and children. Our programs include on-campus child services that can promote low-income students to earn their degree, child assessments with the observation of classroom settings, tutoring for homeless youth, cognitive training for students during the school day to achieve academic success. The various aspects of our programs are designed to improve student success and promote healthier family dynamics.
ICDFR’s student-parent resource center (SPRC) is operated to serve the needs of student-parents and their children. SPRC services include family and parenting webinars, children’s book and clothing exchanges, free diapers for student-parents who reside within SB county, free parenting classes, informal child developmental screenings, a family-friendly study room, and student-parent support groups. By providing these services and resources, we aim to alleviate family financial stress, as well as provide a space for student-parents to seek peer support.
ICDFR can continue being a source of support for student-parents and families with financial support and funding. Fulfilling the ICDFR mission will also help with funding for data collection. Data collection will ultimately help IDCFR implement evidence-based techniques & strategies when preparing students and families for their success. (Increase student success rates, reduce retention/dropout rates). Together, we can influence future generations and assist with better financial and academic outcomes.
Together, we can create lasting, positive impacts for future generations and build stronger, more successful communities.
