About

Dr. Candi Prado served as the Academic Advisor for the Department of Nursing from 2016 until 2024. She had a lasting effect on the regional nursing workforce. Many students were able to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree because of Dr. Prado’s encouragement and belief in their greatness. Faculty, staff and students benefited from her continual compassion, endless kindness and unwavering support. She always listened with an empathetic ear and boosted students’ confidence. She was described as the glue that held the program together, a "bright spot", a "shining star" and the light that led our way. The Nursing Department has been bereft since her untimely passing and wishes to establish this scholarship to keep her legacy alive.

The BSN program is a bridge program that allows students with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) to attain a higher nursing degree. Scholarship funds will support students working towards their BSN who share the same special characteristics that Dr. Prado exhibited: compassion, kindness, empathy and life-long learning.

Three students were awarded the Candi Prado scholarship during academic year 25-26. As one recipient said, “She was kind, patient, and deeply passionate about her work. I truly appreciated the extra time, reassurance, and care she took to answer all of my questions. It truly takes a village, and Candi was absolutely part of ours—supporting not only me, but also helping our family transition into this new chapter as we started preparing to send our first off to college.”
