Scholarship Impact Story

Dear Donors,

My name is Marisol Ortiz, I’m a third year Liberal Studies student here at CSUMB. I am extremely honored to be a recipient of this scholarship and forever grateful for this opportunity. My trip abroad would not be possible without your generous support and kindness to help me succeed overseas.

I will be attending the University of Stirling's study abroad program in Scotland. It would be an opportunity for me to grow not only as a college student continuing a higher education but also as a future elementary teacher. I plan to take a course on the education system from the UK perspective covering one of my major courses. My hope is that I’ll be able to expand my knowledge on international education while also taking advantage of fun learning experiences and opportunities to learn about new cultures.

Studying abroad means you get to experience a new space and group of people. Every culture is very rich and unique, and there’s so much to take away from an experience like this. I know as a future teacher, I’m going to work with a diverse group of students. Experiencing first-hand the complexity of finding community somewhere new will make me more culturally receptive to my future students. Especially those with immigrant backgrounds or even those moving into new schools. Enabling me to develop a fonder understanding of the importance in sustaining an international approach to education.

Thus, studying abroad and being a recipient of this scholarship will make my goal possible by offering me the opportunity to develop as a person, enhance my knowledge and enrich my passion as a future educator.

Sincerely, Marisol Ortiz
