The CalArts Student Food Pantry

Thank you to everyone who made a donation to the Student Food Pantry. Although this crowdfunding campaign has ended, you can still make a gift and directly impact students by clicking here.

The Office of Alumnx and Family Engagement has partnered with CalArts Students' Union to raise funds for the Student Food Pantry, which will provide remote support for students in need. As has been the case across college campuses, food insecurity for CalArts students has increased as a result of the pandemic and we want to ensure that students have the food and basic necessities that they need!

While CalArts has long operated a food pantry, COVID-19 has created an acute need for the pantry to expand to remote services and continue to provide food and necessities to students.

Your support directly impacts students: $5 can provide one lunch to a student, $20 can provide multiple dinners, and a larger gift can buy groceries and essentials for a week or more!

Isha Khanzode (Art BFA 22), Chair of the Students' Union Wellness Committee and Students' Union Fine Art representative, shares more about food insecurity at CalArts and the results of the Students' Union Healthy Minds survey from 2019:

• 53.3% of the 371 students who took the survey had low or very low food security.
• In the last 12 months, 129 students ate less than they thought they should have to stretch their food budget.
• 53% of students said that they could not afford to eat balanced meals.

"By bolstering our pantry, CalArtians won’t have to worry about when or where their next meal will come from and will be able to perform better in their classes. A healthy mind starts with the basics of being able to maintain sufficient diet and hygiene and that is what the members of Student Union want to provide for all. We hope to successfully build a healthier CalArts community together with help from the public.
