The Bison water polo teams have traditionally ranked among the best in the East. The men's squad has made three NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 10 seasons, including runs to the national quarterfinals in the fall of 2019 and spring of 2021. Those league-championship squads were led by three-time All-American Rade Joksimovic, who in 2019 was one of three finalists for the national player of the year award. This past fall, the men’s team finished 6-6 in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference. After dropping a first-round game in the MAWPC Tournament, the Bison battled back with two wins to grab fifth place. The women’s squad posted a winning record in 2025 and is off to a good start this spring. Michigan hosts the CWPA Championship Apr. 10-12 in Ann Arbor. Head coach John McBride is an assistant coach with the U.S. Men’s National Team, and he returned from the Paris Olympics with a bronze medal in 2024.
