What are you focusing on as President of BSAAC? We focus on bridging communication between athletes and the administration to give voice to student-athletes at Bowdoin. We're also very dedicated to serving the greater Bowdoin and Brunswick communities through service, advocacy, DEI-work, celebration, and allyship. 

What are you most proud of? During the fall semester, we brought Victoria Garick Brown to campus to speak about mental health. The BSAAC and Athletes of Color Coalition (AoCC) have done a great job of expanding the general presence of athletics on campus. I've heard a lot of positive feedback from faculty on campus, and we've met with Dean Lohmann. The administration is more receptive to the voices of student-athletes now and this speaks to the collaboration between BSAAC and AoCC. 

What's the biggest learning you'll take from serving as BSAAC president? I've learned how to delegate more! I love being a leader, but learned quickly that I can't do it all. Creating subcommittees was a really important step to dividing up the work.  

What do you want to say to the alumni, families, and friends who are supporting Bowdoin Athletics? I want people to know that they're not only benefiting student-athletes when they give to the PBAF, but also the greater Bowdoin community as well. Service is an important component of BSAAC's work, as well as enriching the campus experience for athletes and non-athletes alike. 

What's next after graduation? I have one more semester to go and after that, I plan to move into the healthcare consulting realm. Athletics has helped me form all of the necessary skills for the real world. This summer, I'm hoping to work with younger athletes. What I really want everyone to learn from sports is the great values that come with it: prioritizing health and wellness, prioritizing working as a team. I'm grateful for every life skill athletics has taught me. 

What are you focusing on as President of the AoCC? I've taken my role as president pretty seriously. There's a lot of ideas that I have and that people on the exec board have, and we want to make sure they get done. My focus this year is on underclassmen and making their transition into Bowdoin easier. I want them to know they have upperclassmen to lean on. Some of the first years are now rooming with each other next year; we were able to foster a solid community this year. 

What are you most proud of? Our Lyman Moore Middle School project was huge. We were able to bring the Portland community to Bowdoin and vice versa. It was great for students of color at Lyman...to see a smile on their face and for them to know that one day they can play squash or skate on the hockey rink. It was a learning experience for the entire Athletic Department. 

What's the biggest learning you'll take from serving as AoCC president? I've learned how to better communicate and control the narrative. Being able to advocate for the club and control our presence on campus, and how to communicate about it effectively will be something I take with me. I learned how to deal with pushback and how to not let nitpicking get in the way of results. 

What do you want to say to the alumni, families, and friends who are supporting Bowdoin Athletics? Gifts to the PBAF are very helpful for the AoCC, as it's a relatively new club. Just knowing there are alumni out there who want to know what we do and our purpose is exciting. It doesn't matter how big or small the gift is; just knowing that they're watching and care is super meaningful. 

What's next after graduation? I'll be attending Columbia to get a Masters in Public Administration. I'm excited to dive into politics, advocacy, and public service. I love being a leader and there's so many ways you can lead. It's important to know your audience and know how to make things happen. At the end of the day, the goal is to advocate enough to make the vision come true. I can't wait to explore that side of politics and policy next year.
