RESEARCH. LEARNING. PRACTICE.
These are the pillars of the Boston University Initiative on Cities (IOC), a university-wide urban center that catalyzes research in, on, and with cities. We marshal the talents of BU faculty and students and forge ties with cities locally, nationally, and globally — in pursuit of creating more livable and resilient cities.
INVESTING IN THE NEXT GENERATION OF CIVIC LEADERS
Creating a supported, well-compensated pipeline is essential for building a diverse workforce that strengthens our cities and connects BU students to meaningful careers. To date, the IOC has funded over 40 interns – many of whom have been asked to continue their work beyond the length of their internships – equipping students with the skills and experiences to launch their careers. The IOC invites you to join us in empowering the next generation of civic leaders.
This Giving Day, we are asking for your support to fund:
- One additional summer internship opportunity
- One additional housing stipend for undergraduate interns
In total, we are seeking $5,500 to cover these costs. Any additional funds raised will be directed toward increasing access to other experiential learning opportunities for undergraduates.
YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS MATTER
With your generous support, the IOC has been able to offer housing stipends to each of our undergraduate summer interns for the last two summers. Given the high cost of housing in Boston, offering this stipend in addition to hourly pay is critical to ensuring participation of all students, regardless of financial background. Please give today to support students gaining firsthand experience in the transformative power of local governance.
