The African Studies Center (ASC) at BU, founded in 1953, is one of the nation’s oldest centers focused on the the study of Africa. As a center for excellence for researching, learning, and teaching about Africa, the ASC provides opportunities for students across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences to examine how their work engages Africa through rigorous academic study, to learn African languages, and to participate in diverse programming outside of the classroom.
Celebrate the Center's 70+ years of impact by making a gift today. Your generosity will ensure our students can take a step further in enriching their education and careers in African studies by supporting our programs and funding student travel for conferences and research. Among the ASC’s array of opportunities and resources for students on and off campus are:
• The African Language Program offers multi-level courses in Akan Twi, Amharic, Igbo, Isixhosa, Isizulu, Kiswahili, Wolof and Yoruba to students from schools across the University.
• Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships provide funding for language and area studies during the academic year in the US and intensive language study over the summer in Africa.
