The Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences (CDS), BU's newest academic unit, embodies the University's bold vision of leveraging computing, data science, and AI as drivers for convergent research and education – a vision manifested physically at the heart of the Charles River Campus by the towering Duan Family Center for Computing & Data Sciences that CDS calls home.
Last year, we welcomed new faculty members and CDS-affiliated faculty who lead cutting-edge teaching and research in 24 departments across BU. In the Spring, we proudly awarded degrees to over 250 undergraduate and graduate students who are now CDS alumni, upholding our first-in-the-nation Pledge of the Computing and Data Science Profession, underscoring our commitment to ethical and impactful practices in the field.
Later in the Fall, we welcomed our third cohort of 106-strong undergraduate matriculants in data science with women making up almost half of the Class of 2028, bucking the trend of women underrepresentation in STEM disciplines. To put CDS’s growth in context: in less than three years, enrollment in CDS courses increased by a whopping 370% in support of over 500 majors, 200 minors in data science.
As this exciting momentum continues to build, and as we see computing & data sciences' prevalence increase across disciplines and industries, we hope you will consider making a gift in support of the Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences. Your investment helps ensure that CDS continues to attract talented faculty, support experiential learning and internship opportunities for students, and provide us with the resources we need to advance and leverage computing and data sciences for a better society.
