Τhe BU Philhellenes summer study program in Athens offers BU students the opportunity to learn Greek and philosophy at the beautiful University of Athens.
Thanks to the support of our community, we have sent over a hundred BU students to Athens over the past ten years with scholarships. We are now in the eleventh year of the program, and with your help, we can continue to send students to Greece to learn the Greek language and discover Greek culture.
On Giving Day, your generous contributions will directly enhance the Summers Study Program. This money will help fund scholarships for BU students to make the summer study program affordable for all. The summer study program includes:
- Classes. Students will take classes in beginning in Modern Greek or in Greek Philosophy.
- Trips. Students visit some amazing sites in Greece, including Delphi, Nafplio, Hydra, and famous sites in Athens, including the Acropolis Museum and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
- Culture. Students taste and discover Greek food, learn Greek dance, see musical performances and theater, and visit the parliament to learn about contemporary events in Greece.
- Visiting Experts. Students attended classes taught by BU Master Lecturer Kelly Polychroniou and by expert scholars at the University of Athens, one of the most prestigious universities in Greece.
With your help, students from all backgrounds and majors at BU can join the program and discover a love of Greece. Many students who have participated in this program have gone on to further study of the Greek language and Greek culture, even minoring in Modern Greek.
