Since coming together as a department in 2018, BU Linguistics has grown into a vibrant and rapidly expanding research community—building new labs, welcoming outstanding students, and sharing innovative research with the world.
Our students ask fundamental questions about one of humanity's most remarkable abilities: language. They are already making an impact—presenting their findings at national and international conferences, conducting fieldwork on languages around the world, and running studies in our research labs here at BU.

Our Goal for Giving Day 2026
For Giving Day 2026, we hope to raise $2,000 to help close the gap between what our students need and what we can provide. This year, our students have requested approximately $13,000 in funding for research and conference travel, of which the department was only able to grant about $11,000. Rising costs for travel, accommodations, and conference registration mean that this support often falls short.
