Religion matters. It shapes societies, influences elections, impacts health and medical care, and even moves militaries around the globe. You can’t understand the world without knowing something about the religious beliefs, rituals, and organizations that, for better or for worse, make history and shape culture. In BU’s Department of Religion, we study all those things in an effort to better understand the past and to make sense of the world around us today.
Your gift to the BU Department of Religion – large or small – can make a real difference in helping us support:
- Our efforts to promote the value of a major or minor in Religion to students in professional tracks.
- Our Religion in Science and Medicine minor, launched in 2021, that provides students with the opportunity to merge their STEM and humanities interests through a 5-course program of study.
- Community events such as lunches and pizza nights, that help foster our unique, close-knit community that is so special to many students who are navigating a sometimes overwhelmingly large campus.
- Our Annual Lecture, which welcomes speakers across a wide range of fields and topics. Most recently, Liz Bucar a Professor of Religion at Northeastern University presented “What is Religious Appropriation? Who Does It, and Why Does it Matter?” The lecture was incredibly well attended by undergraduates, graduates, and faculty alike.
