Help Build a Space Where Wellness Meets Purpose
A new fitness center for students on the Medical Campus is close to becoming a reality. We invite medical students to help create a dedicated wellness space that supports your health and academic journey.
This 2,450-square-foot wellness space will be located on the ground floor of the Instructional Building, across from Chequers, and will feature:
- Cardio machines and treadmills
- Free weights and strength training equipment
- Dedicated yoga and stretching space
- Men's and women's locker rooms
- Restrooms and showers
Why It Matters
Medical students face intense academic and emotional demands—from long hours and research pressures to financial stress and career uncertainty. In 2023, the Dean's Advisory Board launched a wellness task force to better understand student needs. A fitness center emerged as a top priority, voiced through campus wellness surveys and student leadership groups like SCOMSA.
As fourth-year medical student Christina Jefferson shared,
"I feel like prioritizing my happiness and my wellness now, hopefully, can be the foundation for my future wellness."
The Catrambone Fitness Center will complement existing wellness initiatives such as running clubs, nutrition resources, mental health support, and social/professional networking events—creating a holistic support system for students during and beyond medical school.
