By Invitation of The King of England, the CU-Mansfield Bands are invited to perform in the London New Years Day Parade and Celebrations from December 28, 2023 to January 4, 2024.
Students in The Spirit & The Pride of PA Marching Band and the MU Concert Wind Ensemble will perform in the 2024 New Years Day Parade in London, England, as well as other venues to ring in the new year.
Sixty-nine performers will travel together and have been rehearsing since September of this year. Since the invitation came at the time of the Commonwealth merger, Director of Bands Dr. Adam F. Brennan invited students from all three schools to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, highlighting the goals for success in the system merger of the three schools. Five students from Lock Haven and ten students from Bloomsburg are added to the forty-seven students from Mansfield who make up the core of the group. In addition, seven Mansfield alumni will rejoin their alma mater to once again march and perform with their outstanding bands.
While in London, the musicians will have opportunities to see The Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Royal Albert Music Hall, Museums, Buckingham Palace and more. Additionally, they will be treated to a West End Performance (akin to Broadway) of Wicked.
The Parade route will have over 600,000 people lining the route, and international television coverage will broadcast to an audience of 6 Billion viewers. The exposure for Commonwealth University will be profound! The experience for the students to participate in the event and learn from their travel experience will be priceless and life-changing.
