The Augsburg Central Health Commons is a nursing-led drop-in center that is dedicated to building relationships based on mutual benefit and understanding with those who are experiencing homelessness or who are marginally housed in Minneapolis. We provide basic health supplies such as socks, shampoo, conditioner, underwear, and soap directly to people without asking for personal information in exchange. Nursing faculty members and students from Augsburg University led, organize and participate at the Augsburg Central Health Commons and have for over twenty-seven years. We believe that health is a journey that incorporates the importance of belonging, finds the strength in survival and de-emphasizes the expert model. Our nursing practice is embedded in social justice praxis and transcultural nursing principles. Our mission is to intentionally seek to honor the dignity of all our participants and focus on reducing stereotypes in our healthcare system. This work also represents a longstanding partnership between Augsburg University and Central Lutheran Church.
Everything we offer our guests comes strictly from donations. We need your help to continue this work whether you would like to donate money, supplies, or time. Thank you for considering us on this day of giving!
