The Campus Kitchen at Augsburg University works to build community through food and make healthy food accessible in and around the Cedar Riverside Neighborhood and on Augsburg’s campus.
Access to affordable, healthy food is always critically important for Augsburg students and our neighbors in Cedar-Riverside. With increased rates of food insecurity during the pandemic, your support matters now more than ever.
This year, we are seeking donations to support two key component of the Campus Kitchen program.
1.The Campus Cupboard food shelf:
The Campus Cupboard food shelf has dramatically increased our reach during the pandemic. We are open 4 days/week and provide Augsburg students with a wide array of free groceries, including dry goods, snacks, fresh produce, dairy, meat, and more. Because our program operates on a small budget, we rely primarily on recovered food items, which limits choice and thus our ability to meet students’ specific needs. Our new partner organization, The Food Group, offers a wide variety of culturally appropriate food options, at a higher cost than we currently have budget for. Culturally diverse food from The Food Group costs roughly $2/lb. A $30 donation provides one grocery bag with culturally-appropriate foods for an Auggie.
2. Food access in Cedar-Riverside:
The Campus Kitchen program provides free meals and fresh produce as well as cooking programming for our neighbors in Cedar Riverside. A $60 donation covers supplies needed for one cooking class for neighborhood youth.
