This spring, we have the exciting opportunity to travel to London–the birthplace of the sport we all love.
Oxy Womxn’s Rugby is a vital support network that brings a wide diversity of people together, creating a special, inclusive community on campus. It has taught us strength, confidence, and empowerment in our own bodies–lessons that extend far beyond the rugby pitch.
However, there is no professional women’s rugby in the US, and this lack of representation can make it hard to envision our own success. To witness and collaborate with professional female athletes who are valued in the world of sports—and in the larger society–would be a monumental experience for our team.
In London, we are planning to play rugby in a variety of ways, including scrimmaging King's College and participating in a clinic with the Harlequins (professional English women’s rugby team). This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from these teams and foster international collaboration through rugby.
That said, the beauty of rugby is accessibility. We want this opportunity to be available to everyone on our team, regardless of financial ability. That is where you come in! If you are able to, please consider donating to our team. As our coach Mayra says, “Everyday we get to play rugby is a gift!” Help us make the most of this gift. Thank you.
