Join us in supporting Ashland University's Annual Civil Rights Pilgrimage: "The Delta Blues"
Purpose of the Trip
The Civil Rights Pilgrimage is designed to introduce participants to the conditions that led to the birth of The Blues and its many influences on the American Civil Rights Movement.
Ashland University students will visit significant historical sites and museums from Jackson, MS to Memphis, TN, converse with scholars, and reflect as a group on each day's experiences.
Planned Itinerary
- Day 1: Travel Day & Jackson, MS
- Mississippi Civil Rights Museum
- Meet with activists from Mission Mississippi
- Day 2: A day in the Delta - Jackson to Clarksdale, MS
- Visit sites along the Mississippi Blues Trail & Freedom Trail
- Tour the BB King Museum
- Day 3: Clarksdale, Oxford, and Memphis
- Tour Delta Blues Museum
- Visit the University of Mississippi
- An evening on historic Beale Street
- Day 4: Memphis
- Tour the National Civil Rights
- Lunch at Charlie Vargo's Rendezvous
