AU Men's Soccer has a rich history, and I am grateful to come to work every day with our student-athletes and have the opportunity to continue building on that history. Giving Day is vital to our success, our ability to run the program at the highest level, and to provide the best possible experience for our student-athletes.
Your gifts right now will directly impact our team travel needs and our equipment needs. Pre-season expenses before classes start continue to cost more and more each year, and in 2026, we have 2 big away trips to Hofstra and UNC on the books. We are hoping to add a new set of uniforms this fall and replace our winter coats, which are needed!
Your contribution directly influences our ability to enhance men's soccer and achieve our program's objectives. We deeply appreciate your investment and support.
"I chose AU after spending some time with the freshmen on my visit. Immediately, I could tell the strong bond within the team and was treated as one of them while still being a recruit. So far, my experience at AU has shown me just how deep that connection between the team goes. Even in our most difficult moments, the team’s identity is unchanging, and everyone remains valuable to the team in their own way. I don’t regret choosing AU, because I have ended up growing every single day and becoming part of a family that I can help achieve great things and leave better for those who come next."
"My experience at AU has provided me with a family that pushes me to better myself on and off the field. The powerful team culture that has been established here brings players of all backgrounds together in search of a common goal, encouraging each individual to find their own growth along the way. I have made so many meaningful connections with players, coaching staff, and members of the community that will last a lifetime, and I look forward to creating more."
The American University men's soccer team earned an impressive share of this year's Patriot League major awards and All-League selections. Troy Elgersma was named Midfielder of the Year, Matthew Tibbetts the Goalkeeper of the Year, and the Coaching Staff of the Year was awarded to Zach Samol and his assistants. Mustpaha Sowe and Jonah Fogel took home First Team honors in addition to Elgersma and Tibbets, while Ian Webb-Johnson and Taku Takahashi made the Second Team, and Sebastian Garces landed on the third team.
American collected three of the six major awards, and earned the most All-League selections.
