PEP BAND

Aidan Dixon, Pep Band Director:

As Pep Band Director at American University, Aidan blends his expertise as a music educator and arts project manager to excel in music education program management. Driven by a passion for creating joy through music, Aidan shaped a place for students to not only thrive as musicians but also enjoy themselves and those around them. Aidan has revitalized the AU Pep Band with the help of dedicated band members by fostering a welcoming, student-centered environment, resulting in the growth of the ensemble’s membership from 15 to over 40 students in the span of a year.

Ella Cantor, flute (Band Librarian, Student Conductor):

Pep Band has been one of my favorite parts about being at AU since starting here in the fall. Everyone has been so welcoming and kind! As an aspiring music educator, I’ve been given opportunities to grow both as a leader and educator by conducting some of the games myself. I’m so grateful for my time in Pep Band and I can’t wait to see what’s to come!

AU Pep Band has given me so many great experiences all in one. I’ve made friends who love making music as much as I do, and I’ve gotten to learn how to conduct and lead a band, all while cheering on my school. Pep Band at AU has been one of the best parts of my time in college.

Holly Scanlon, alto saxophone:

Being in Pep Band has given me a community where I can do something I love while having fun with the wonderful people around me. As a senior, I can confidently say that this ensemble has been one of my favorite parts of college and I have made great memories that will last me a lifetime.

Justin Stewart, euphonium:

Since the return of the Pep Band in the spring of 2023, you’d be hard-pressed to find a group with more school spirit. Cheering on the teams and playing for the AU community has become my favorite part of the week. Without the Pep Band, my time at AU would not have been the same!
