Dance

Alma College has a decades-long tradition of dance on campus. The dance program offers both a major and a minor in dance in addition to dance courses that can be taken by students in any major and with any level of experience. Ask an alum or a current student, and they will tell you that dance classes were a transformative experience for them at Alma College.

• Some notable dance experiences in the last academic year:

• Alma College Dance Company has hosted six guest artists of national acclaim over the last two years including Laura Halzack of the Paul Taylor Dance Company and David Dorfman of David Dorfman Dance. Each guest artist has spent time in residence on campus working with the dance company to create original dances that are performed at our fall and spring dance concerts.

• In the summer of 2024, dancers and actors from the Department of Theatre and Dance at Alma College performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They spent spring term creating an original dance/theater performance based on the life of American choreographer Martha Graham and performed it at the festival to sold out audiences.

A gift to Alma College's Dance program helps fund:

1.) continued funding for guest artists and travel

2.) a high quality video camera that is designated to Dance and can be used to document performance as well as create promotional material for the program.
