Chemistry brings people and problems together. The program features hands-on experiences from laboratory coursework to faculty led research that prepares students for employment. Students who have studied chemistry at Alma College are currently solving environmental problems, working to provide energy solutions, developing pharmaceuticals, and treating patients, among many other applications and careers. Study in chemistry forms a firm foundation for progress in many other disciplines, including preparing a student for graduate work in medicine, engineering, and forensic science.
Student Opportunities:
• Earn an American Chemical Society certified degree in our nationally accredited American Chemical Society certified program
• Have a hands-on experience in the laboratory including a broad range of instrument usage throughout the curriculum
• Present your research at national and regional conferences and publish with faculty mentors
• Develop the skills to become a competitive applicant for health professions graduate programs (particularly in medicine, pharmacy and dentistry)
• Explore other passions by being a double major (students have double majored in chemistry with environmental science, math, biology, music, art, modern language, etc.)
Career Outcomes:
Our students get jobs and are accepted to graduate programs. Recent graduates have industrial jobs in chemical, environmental, and forensic sciences industries or have gone to graduate programs in chemistry and related programs such as pharmacy, medicine,
materials science, forensic sciences, and law. Students who have studied chemistry at Alma College are currently solving environmental problems, working to provide energy solutions, developing pharmaceuticals, and treating patients, among many other applications and careers.
