About

Welcome to DU@Sundance, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at building the next generation of storytellers and industry leaders through access, mentorship, and real-world festival immersion. This new program will launch with a series of film festival classes that offer DU students a curated experience at the January 2027 Sundance Film Festival.

The DU@Sundance Experience will provide 40 DU students with a faculty-led experience at the festival's debut in Boulder, Colorado, marking the first time the film festival will be held outside Utah after 40+ years in Park City.

Students will receive tickets, meals, and transportation to a variety of screenings at the festival. Students will meet with Sundance programmers, Sundance filmmakers, and other media professionals as they learn about the history, culture, and impact of arts-based media events like Sundance.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support DU students:

$50 – Buy Sundance Movie Ticket for DU Student

$100 – Buy Sundance Movie Ticket & Dinner for DU Student

"The opportunity to attend Sundance is an impactful experience for our students, merging their passion and creativity for film with real-world experience that shapes their growth as storytellers, filmmakers, and industry leaders."

- Joe Brown, Associate Professor & Filmmaker

DU Students attend Sundance Event - Mostly True Stories From the Sundance Film Festival

This week, several MFJS students and staff were given the opportunity to attend a kick-off Sundance event in DU's own back yard!  'Mostly True Stories From the Sundance Film Festival' premiered at Newman Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday, September 8th.

As part of the event, students attended a pre-program sit down with Eugene Hernandez, Director and Head of Public Programming for @sundanceorg, and John Nein, Senior Film Programmer, for a rare opportunity to learn directly from professionals shaping the film industry today. 🎥

Students also participated in an on-stage trivia session with film students from other schools in surrounding areas!

This January, 40 #UniversityofDenver film students hope to attend the Sundance Film Festival in Boulder, CO to participate in screenings, workshops, and networking with filmmakers and programmers. Your support can make that happen!
