About

A Message from the Dean of Clemmer College

This has been an exciting year for us. Our faculty and staff have been working on behalf of our students to facilitate their success in realizing the dreams that happen through the completion of college degrees. Many of our students are seeking to becoming teachers, early care and education providers, and school, university, or community leaders. Others are creating an interdisciplinary focus to address their career goals. Our students have been “in the field” working directly in schools, community and non-profit agencies, and area businesses to serve people of all ages and walks of life carrying out our vision of enhancing the lives of students, faculty, staff, and community through quality programs to shape the future.

After an exciting year of change including a new college structure, the establishment of the general education Compass Core, and updating of academic programs, we have come together to continue to live our values to be a college where everyone belongs, collaboration is the heart of our operation, innovation permeates our work allowing for dynamic leadership resulting in outstanding scholarship. We launched our updated Educational Technology Resource Laborator with new equipment and support for educational instruction. Our new Center for Rural Education and Development focused on collaborative engagement and research informed practices has already made an impact in our rural communities. We have also launched new pathways to support educator preparation with more highly qualified teachers entering our schools. We also began work on our strategic plan to support our vision to Strengthen the foundation for the people of Appalachia and beyond to serve as a model for education and human development.

While we continue to have much to celebrate, we are also very aware of the challenges faced in our region. As we look to the horizon, we are recommitting to our focus on community and the success of our students. And you are an essential part of our work. I’m excited to be part of ETSU’s Week of Giving, “Forever ETSU” this year starting on April 20th. We use investments from generous supporters like you to help our students thrive, enrich faculty and staff development, and fund special programs like the Great Buc Educator Exam Fund. Your investment also enables us to provide assistance during natural disasters, such as Hurricane Helene, as well as support students during more commonly occurring times of crisis or downturn. I believe in our people, in their potential, and the positive impact they will continue to make in our community. That’s why I’ve already given $500.00, and I invite you to invest in us too! Help us to support what we have already begun with programming in Building a Culture of Resilience, our Community and Wellness Committee, and our work with rural communities as well as building our scholarships and “Just-in-Time” support for students. Your contributions will directly impact our work to further our mission during the 2026-2027 academic year.

Imagine what we could do if 50 people joined me with an additional gift of $10 or $20 dollars. Every pledge counts. It doesn't matter what support you provide, know that we appreciate you and that you are part of our Clemmer Community.

A Message from the University School Director

Alumni, Family, and Friends,

As we reflect on another amazing year at University School, we are excited about the future of our students and the continued transformation of our learning environment. With the evolving demands of education, we are dedicated to providing our students with the tools and spaces they need to thrive – and that is only possible with the generosity and support of our community.

This year, we are continuing our focus on two critical initiatives: enhancing our technology infrastructure and redesigning our classrooms to foster a dynamic, interactive, and collaborative learning environment. These upgrades are not just about providing new gadgets or furniture, but about creating a setting where our students can explore, innovate, and engage in hands-on learning that prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.

Why Your Gift Matters:
Your support will directly impact the future of our students by:

*Expanding Technology Access: Upgrading classroom technology – from interactive smart boards to upgrading individual devices – ensures that each student has access to the best tools for learning.
*Redesigning Learning Spaces: Modern classroom designs promote collaboration, creativity, and flexibility. This transformation will allow students to engage in project-based learning and develop critical skills for their futures.
*Preparing Students for the Future: By integrating more technology into our curriculum and creating adaptable learning spaces, we are equipping our students with the skills necessary to excel in the digital age.

We are excited to invite you to participate in our Annual Week of Giving April 20-26. Your gift, no matter the size, will have a direct and lasting impact on the quality of education we can provide.

Thank you for your continued support of University School. We are grateful for your partnership as we work together to provide our students with the best possible education in an environment that fosters growth, exploration, and creativity!
