The mission of the UT Austin Public Health Program is to help preserve, promote, and improve the health and well-being of populations, communities, and people. The Guatemala Public Health Internship supports that goal by providing students the opportunity to spend six weeks in Antigua, Guatemala, interning 240 hours, in person with staff and participants at The God’s Child Project/Asociación Nuestros Ahijados (ANA). The God’s Child Project is an international, non-governmental organization that strives to enact permanent and sustainable changes in Antigua and surrounding communities. Interns participate in The God’s Child Project’s holistic approach to improving families’ circumstances by caring for malnourished infants, providing food to families, handling administrative tasks associated with awarding scholarships, creating educational enrichment activities, identifying educational and entrepreneurial opportunities for heads of families, and analyzing data used for goal setting and evaluation.
