Shaping Success, One Gift at a Time

Our inclusive, ever-evolving curriculum welcomes students who may doubt their place in a technical field while challenging those with extensive experience. From intro courses to senior capstones, students engage in hands-on teamwork and real-world problem-solving, often collaborating with faculty on published research. True to the liberal arts spirit, we encourage interdisciplinary learning, equipping students with critical thinking and problem-solving skills for any career—and life beyond it.

At the heart of our department are people—we teach and learn through collaboration, communication, and human connection.

Support our Summer Programs!

The Math, Statistics, and Computer Science (MSCS) Department is raising funds to expand opportunities for student research, conference travel, and Math Corps @ Mac, a free summer math program for local middle and high school students. Your support will directly impact student learning and community engagement!

Student Research & Travel

On-campus summer research and conference travel provide invaluable experiences that help students develop critical skills and prepare for careers and graduate school. Each summer, MSCS faculty mentor around 20 research students, but demand far exceeds available funding.

Recent research projects have explored:

  • Using topology to uncover knowledge gaps in scientific networks
  • Designing accessible programming tools for blind students
  • Building virtual reality interfaces for 3D modeling
  • Analyzing museum data for the Minneapolis Institute of Art

Unfortunately, limited funding means that many promising student-faculty collaborations go unfunded each year. Your donation will expand student access to hands-on research and professional development through conference travel.

To support this initiative, click the Give Now button at the top of the page and select Math, Statistics, and Computer Science.

Math Corps @ Mac

Math Corps @ Mac is a free five-week summer camp for Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) students that emphasizes mathematics, computer science, and mentorship. The program is designed for students of all academic backgrounds and mirrors SPPS’s diverse demographics.

Why Math Corps @ Mac Matters:

  • Less than 20% of SPPS students are proficient in math, with persistent racial disparities in advanced coursework.
  • In our inaugural 2024 cohort, students’ math skills improved from 68% to 95% after just five weeks.
  • Students can return each year and even become paid teaching assistants as they age out of the program.

We are committed to removing barriers—Math Corps @ Mac is completely free, providing school supplies, meals, and now free door-to-door transportation from SPPS.

With volunteer administrators and donated campus resources, 100% of donations go directly to student-facing expenses. Your early support is crucial in helping us grow and reach more students in 2025 and beyond!

To support the Math Corps program, click on Give Now. On the giving page, please select "Other" in the designation field and type in "Math Corps Program".

Thank you for investing in student success!
