Valentine’s Day comes but once a year, so forget pink and red — this week it’s all about showing some love for Green and White! We have lots of ways you can show your appreciation for Gunston and the people who make it such a special place. Join in the love today with a donation of any amount and help us boost our participation numbers. Charitable giving accounts for 15% of our operating budget, so in addition to supporting our students and faculty, your participation helps the school secure vital grants and other funding.
ALL GIFTS WILL BE MATCHED, UP TO $10,000!
Donations of any amount are welcome, but here are some suggested amounts:

Dear Gunston Community,
We are blown away by the response and support we received this week! As we delivered message after message, your words of kindness put smiles on so many faces and brightened so many days, all while supporting the Heron Annual Fund.
Thanks to your generosity, we will be making deliveries around campus well into next week (after we return to school on Tuesday after President's Day) so stay tuned for a few more updates :)
In four days, you helped to raise $30,126 for the students and faculty of The Gunston School!

In four days, with the help of our amazing Gunston Parents' Association, we boosted participation rates across the board!

Many Thanks,
Team Gunston!

A big thank you to Ms. Sheets & Ms. Showalter!

“We love how [Director of College Guidance] Mr. D'Antonio has been a tremendous help to Josh in the college application process! We also love the tight knit community of friends that our kids and we have developed over the past several years.”

(Faculty) 1972 - 2011 *Sarah arrived in 1972, Tony in 1975

From the day of our arrival together in 1975 (with only 46 boarding students), Gunston has continued to grow bigger and better in so many ways. Gunston’s growth is made possible by the great love for the school that was built over many years and shared by faculty, staff, students, alumni, trustees, and community partners. Gunston isn’t (and never has been) solely focused on academic achievement. While its academics are rigorous, it is not a competitive “cutthroat” environment such as you may find at many other schools. Rather, the school provides fertile ground for students to become what they’re meant to be, where they can be proud of their own successes and achievements.
So why do we love Gunston? Here’s a few why’s:
Only at Gunston can there be both competitive sailing and crew on its own waterfront, each supporting the other.
Only at Gunston with its unique waterfront location can you find a daily appreciation for the surrounding natural environment and a close connection to the Chesapeake Bay that gives students unparalleled access to study biology, natural history, ecology, and environmental science.
Only at Gunston will you find special community-wide celebrations such as Embarkation, Disembarkation, the laying of the memorial bricks. These are traditions that are deeply moving, memorable and uniquely Gunston.
And speaking of traditions, perhaps the most treasured of them all is Green and White Days, a friendly day of competition that includes all students with all interests, not just athletics. Only at Gunston could we have fun acting out the whole process of protein synthesis for competition!
As young people today are challenged with navigating life during a pandemic, climate change, and increased polarization among other issues, a school like Gunston is more important than ever, providing a nurturing environment where students can develop lifelong leadership and teamwork skills, and learn how to think critically and objectively in order to develop a value system in camaraderie with other students and teachers. Gunston has always strived for (and succeeded!) to provide this for its students.
For these reasons and more, this is why we love and support Gunston.
