With the help of this tournament and generous donations from local community members, we hope to purchase a van, equipment, and necessary staffing for the Mobile Eye Care Unit. With your help, we will be able to accomplish our biggest service project that will serve thousands of people in the area for many years to come!
Mission:
The faculty of Kentucky College of Optometry and students within the Pikeville Lions Club have collaborated to start a mobile eye care unit that will serve surrounding communities in Ky., Va., W.Va., and Tenn.
Our goal is to play a vital role in vision loss in underserved areas. The money raised and donations received will go directly toward the equipment and supplies needed to provide high-quality vision care and be an important mediator for patients needing further evaluation.
Mobile Eye Care Unit:
This unit will be available to entire communities, and we will be able to screen patients for serious eye and systemic disease that lead to blindness or other complications that many people in this area suffer from. We can refer these patients to appropriate doctors. This unit will be able to catch disease earlier and provide healthcare sooner.
Background on the Lions Club:
The Lions Club is one of the biggest service organizations worldwide! As a Lion, you become part of a global network of volunteers to make a difference. Each Lions Club has their own focus. There are five global causes of particular interest worldwide including diabetes, environment, hunger, vision and childhood cancer. The Pikeville Lions Club has worked endlessly in the past to serve the community – Homeless Shelter Drives, Pancake Breakfast, Sock Drive, Canned Food Drive, Hillbilly Days Eye Clinic, etc.
