"When I first came to Northern State University, I never imagined how far this experience would take me. I come from a background in Brazil, where opportunities like studying in the United States seem distant—even impossible. It wasn't that I lacked motivation or passion, but I didn’t always have access to the same resources, connections, or encouragement that other students might take for granted. Being a student at Northern State has changed everything for me. At Northern State, I am not just learning skills—I am gaining access. I have met faculty, staff, and mentors who believe in my potential and help me thrive. They encourage me to grow in confidence, pursue meaningful opportunities, and recognize that I have something valuable to contribute—that I can, and should, aim high."

Study Abroad Student Spotlight

Nick Hogan - from Brookings, SD - will graduate in May of 2026 - Marketing major and International Business Studies minor

Study Abroad Program and Picture: Nick is currently completing a semester abroad at the University of Worcester in Worcester, England. The picture attached is taken during his study abroad experience in the nearby town of Bridgnorth, England. The picture below is of Worcester, England. 

"What I enjoy most about studying abroad is getting to experience events and places that I would not be able to at home. On my weekends, I get to take a train from the city center to anywhere in the U.K. and just walk around. My advice to anyone studying abroad is to say "Yes" to any invitation offered to you, even if it doesn't seem like your thing. I am getting to learn a lot about myself due to this incredible opportunity."
