"Being part of the McNair Scholar program as a senior has proved to be nothing but a blessing in my life. As I navigated the different options suitable for me regarding graduate school, the program helped me realize just what path I should take and gave me all the resources I needed to pursue such a goal. Before the McNair program, I had no idea where to begin with the task of preparing for graduate school, but all of the seminars and wonderful McNair staff helped to make it a simple and welcoming experience for me. I am thankful that I was able to be a part of the program and to work with the knowledgeable leaders of the group before I graduated with my bachelor degree from Northern State University."

"TRIO has helped me along my college journey with academic support such as providing tutoring or study groups, and hosting academic workshops to excel in my coursework, daily life skills, and academic skills. I have gotten to know more

people and connect with other peers around me that are also in this program. I have used the tutoring center for writing papers. I have had an amazing tutor who has helped me with brainstorming ideas for my papers and making good outlines of my papers."

"Working as a tutor at the Student Success Center has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my journey here at Northern. This role has allowed me to be part of a community that uplifts students and values academic success. By helping my peers gain confidence in their coursework, I have also grown as a mentor, strengthening my ability to guide, support, and encourage others. I believe the tutoring center is more than just a resource on campus, it is a place where students can support one another and grow together."

These experiences have not only benefited my peers but have also deepened my appreciation for collaborative learning, which I will carry into my future endeavors."

-Jenna Helms, 2024

"My time as an English tutor at Northern was one of my college highlights. I was able to support my fellow students by helping brainstorm, draft or just be another pair of eyes on their assignments. This part of the campus community gave me opportunities to build connections and hone my teaching skills. I met so many people from different walks of life which made me appreciate everyone’s unique gifts and experiences. I think the students I worked with taught me just as much as I taught them both academically and personally. The tutoring center is a supportive space for students to challenge themselves and work towards their academic goals. It has had a huge impact on me, and I encourage all students to take advantage of this resource."
