The Vol Edge program is a bold new initiative to ensure every Volunteer graduates not only with a degree, but with the skills and confidence to thrive in today’s world. Developed by the Division of Student Success and shaped through student input, Vol Edge bridges classroom learning with real-world career readiness.
Launched in January 2025, Vol Edge is built on national career readiness competencies and follows a three-phase model. Students begin with self-paced modules in leadership, well-being, and professional skills. They then complete at least one transformational experience—such as study abroad, internships, or undergraduate research—paired with reflection and preparation. Finally, participants learn to “tell their story,” articulating their strengths and experiences in resumes, interviews, and applications.
Early results show powerful impact: more than 95% of students report achieving their learning goals, and employers are recognizing the program’s emphasis on applied learning and self-reflection. By combining academic study with meaningful experiences, Vol Edge prepares Volunteers not just for their first job, but for lifelong success as adaptable, globally minded leaders with Tennessee roots and worldwide reach.
