Flair Magazine is UNC Wilmington’s premier student-run fashion and culture magazine, created to showcase the creativity, talent, and voices of our campus community. Each issue highlights original student writing, photography, design, and styling—offering students an opportunity to gain hands-on publishing, editorial, and creative experience in a collaborative, professional setting.
Producing a print magazine of high quality requires significant resources. Printing costs, photography equipment, props, and design tools quickly add up, and our budget is limited. Without additional funding, we cannot bring Flair’s vision for the upcoming issue to life at the scale and quality our contributors and readers deserve. We are seeking $1,500 to cover the direct production costs of our next issue. This achievable goal will allow us to fund printing, ensure professional-quality photography and layout, and support promotional efforts so that Flair reaches a wide audience both on campus and in the Wilmington community.

Who We Are:

Michael Ponce – Editor-in-Chief: As the president of this organization, my goal is to create an environment where all students may express themselves while creating a professional portfolio for future endeavors. I oversee all of Flair's operations, which include writing, photography, graphic design, and financial decisions. When I first joined this organization, it was one of the first spaces at UNCW that felt like home. Truthfully, Flair wouldn't be possible without our directors and club members, and it means the world to provide such a space for students at UNCW.
Anthony Ponce – Editor-in-Chief: I oversee our entire team of creatives across media platforms to showcase their innovative ideas and work. Flair has provided me with a platform and a foundation to help support up-and-coming student photographers, writers, graphic designers, models, and so many more. Flair gives students a sense of community and networking opportunities that help them grow and develop into fully realized artists.

Sara Byrnes – Director of Writing: I lead our team of writers and editors through the creative and editorial process from content creation to final edits. Working with our members through the pitching process is one of my favorite parts of my job. I love hearing everyone’s ideas and then helping them come to fruition. We’ve built a wonderful community of creatives that I consider myself lucky to be a part of.

Sarah Higgins – Director of Design: I oversee the magazine’s visual layout and aesthetics. I help teach members the Adobe Creative Suite and apply my graphic design skills to curate spreads. My time with Flair has taught me how to collaborate with others and grow as a creative. I am so grateful for this opportunity to connect with amazing people and create something so special with each issue.

Anna Nauman – Social Media Chair: I oversee the magazine’s online presence by managing our social media platforms and fostering connections with UNCW students and the greater Wilmington community. Through creative social media outreach, I love highlighting the talented and passionate individuals who make Flair what it is and sharing all the amazing things they do to make our club so special.

Sophia Reese – Director of Marketing and Fundraising: I handle coordinating and executing all Flair events, fundraising initiatives, and promotional activities. From planning fun events to negotiating ad partnerships, my role allows me to collaborate with local businesses and strengthen Flair’s presence throughout Wilmington. My favorite part is getting to watch our members and supporters come together as we enjoy one another’s company and celebrate Flair with unapologetic enthusiasm! Flair has been a community to me since my freshman year, and I take great joy in now being the one to help show students why their college experience could use a little “Flair”:)

Skye Harry – Director of Art: I help run all of our photoshoots, making sure we translate the creative vision of our members into reality. Our members are extremely creative and showcasing that creativity is one of my favorite parts of the role.

Sasha Lawton – Director of Styling: I assist creative directors in bringing their visions to life. My approach to each shoot is tailored to the artist's vision. Apparel, accessories, hair and makeup and set design all contribute to the narration of the story being told. Flair is more than just a magazine. It is a platform for young students to grow and develop as artists. It is a creative community where artists collaborate and support one another, creating magic in the process.

Eri Mitchell – Lifestyle Editor: I collaborate with Sara, Sophia, Grace, and our staff writers to cultivate and polish the articles and genre pieces for the each issue. As a creative writing and English double major, it’s been a beautiful opportunity to do what I love and plan to practice as a career in a community of creatives and idealists. There’s high value in a place where my brain never feels ejected or removed, simply a room where not only do my dreams come true with every meeting, but also, I’m helping someone else in the process of doing the same.

Sophia Mahle – Culture Editor: I work alongside Sara, Eri, and Grace to provide productive feedback for the pieces our members produce! I have worked as both an editor and the director of writing in past semesters, and it has truly been an enriching, motivating experience to be surrounded by such imaginative individuals. Flair has gifted my college years with a collaborative and fulfilling space to engage in the creative process and have a final product to be proud of!

Grace Baeurle – Beauty & Fashion Editor: I help the Director of Writing and our Flair writers refine the issue’s articles. I love that I get to be a part of the editing process to help the writers find their voice and make their articles even more appealing to readers. I have been a member of Flair for almost 4 years and I am so grateful that it has given me the opportunity to meet and work with so many up-and-coming creatives. Flair is a valuable place for us creatives to gather and learn from each other.
