Firelands Emergency Aid for Students Fund

This fund provides critical assistance to BGSU Firelands students facing unexpected financial hardships. This support helps students navigate challenges, allowing them to stay focused on their education and continue progressing toward their degrees.

The Promise Scholarship at BGSU Firelands

Over 60 years ago, community leaders and residents from Erie, Huron and Ottawa counties worked together to make higher education accessible in this region. Their donations helped create Firelands College because they saw education as an investment in their communities’ future.

We continue to be guided by that same spirit today, as we work to ensure access and opportunity for our students and communities.

The Promise Scholarship is a need-based, last-dollar award that helps students from Firelands’ five founding counties—Erie, Huron, Ottawa, Sandusky and Lorain—cover any remaining tuition after all other aid is applied. By ensuring students have no tuition balance, the Promise helps them enroll, stay in school and finish their education without financial barriers.

By making the Promise Scholarship an endowed fund, we aim to create lasting opportunities for students each year and invest in our region’s future workforce. Early support from community partners and local foundations helps us build toward a $1 million endowment.

The Promise Scholarship continues Firelands’ commitment to keeping education affordable, along with the Firelands Grant for Sandusky residents. These efforts demonstrate our belief that a student’s location should not determine whether they can afford college.

Giving on One Day honors the legacy of Firelands’ founders and helps continue their promise, ensuring access to education remains a core value for future generations
