Check out these stories from Trevecca students and graduates about how the Trevecca Urban Farm has made a difference in their lives!

Freshman Tessa Nantze:

“The farm has been the most impactful part of my time at Trevecca; it’s what made me choose Trevecca in the first place! I came here not knowing many people, but the farm community welcomed me and became like a second family (the goats included).

I am majoring in biology and plan on getting a master’s in environmental science. The farm has been a great way for me to grow, learn, and gain hands-on experience in the field. I never felt like I had an outlet to put my passion to work, but now I do that daily. Every day here offers a new adventure with exciting projects and lessons. (If you want to know more about what we do, come find me!)

Coming together to care for creation has truly been a gift to me.”

Farm Manager Matthew Burnham:

“The Trevecca Urban Farm is awesome in many unique ways. To name a few, the staff and student workers are absolutely fantastic to work with. Top-tier working environment in my book. Second, I love soaking in the knowledge of our fearless leader, Jason Adkins - you will rarely leave a conversation with him without acquiring helpful facts or strategies he has come to know through his years of farming.
Finally, the opportunity to create wonderful places on the Trevecca campus where true beauty meets food resources and waste reduction is unbeatable. Thank you TUF for this amazing job and community!

Sophomore Madyson Sewell:

“On the day I moved onto campus as a freshman in August 2023, I took a walk down the hill to explore the farm. >span class="NormalTextRun SCXW212063270 BCX8"> when I met Matthew (farm manager), and after a quick chat about working there, I just knew I had to be part of their mission. Over time I have come to realize the Farm is the best thing about Trevecca! The Trevecca Urban Farm has taught me so much about hard work, responsibility, and perseverance through caring for all the plants and animals. Knowing that our work serves a greater purpose makes every day feel rewarding even if the tasks are challenging. The incredible sense of community I’ve found at the farm, filled with passionate individuals who support and inspire each other, has been another amazing aspect of the farm. If you ever have any questions about the farm, don’t hesitate to stop me—I am always eager to share what we do!”

 Freshman Kaitlyn Pierson:

“My experience at the farm has been great. When I first got to Trevecca I didn’t even know the farm existed. I then saw they were hiring and knew I wanted to work there. After being raised on a farm and taking care of animals, the farm has given me a part of home at college. The farm is very valuable. Learning how to grow things, taking care of animals, and having a community where we can have fun and get things done at the same time makes this job so much fun. My favorite part of the job is getting to spend time with the animals and the workers. The farm has also given me many friends that I never would have made if I didn’t work at the farm. Not only does the farm just impact Trevecca, it impacts the entire community with our online market and through our tree cycle programs where we plant trees for the community.

Matthew Kalb (2024 graduate):

“Working at the Trevecca Urban Farm was such a valuable experience for me. It is, without question, one of the best jobs I’ve ever worked. I have so many great memories working there. The work felt wholesome, meaningful, and fulfilling. It was so nice to work in nature and be able to immediately see the results of the work of my hands.

I learned so many valuable skills working there that I will take with me throughout life. It’s inspired me to build my own little garden and small animal farm one day when I have the resources to do so. I will always cherish the memories and lessons from the Trevecca Urban Farm. Thank you for teaching me so much!”
