What is WriteOn’s impact in numbers?
Since 2016, our program has provided 87 fellowships for New School Creative Writing MFA candidates and classes for hundreds of students.
What exactly does WriteOn do in the schools?
Our teaching fellows enter their classrooms in pairs. WriteOn courses meet once a week for 12-14 weeks and feature an end-of-semester celebratory reading event where WriteOn students share their work to proud audiences of their families, teachers, TNS supporters and classmates. Our Fellows, in addition to developing their own curricula and teaching, plan and execute the final performance.
Does WriteOn work with partner organizations?
Yes! In Fall 2021, WriteOn partnered with The New School’s Parsons Scholars Program to offer special courses offering individual feedback to high school seniors on preparing a college application. In Spring 2022, WriteOn continued this collaboration with high school juniors.
In Spring 2022, WriteOn sent 4 Fellows to Colorado where they taught 30 classes for the Aspen Words institute.
And the Center For Fiction partnered with WriteOn Fellow Crysta Garcia to teach through Creatives Rebuild New York in 2022-2023.
WriteOn has also offered Creative Writing classes at Saint Benedict’s Prep in Newark. NJ.
