Your Gift Made an Incredible Difference on PCC’s Big Give Day!

I hope you’re doing well! I’m reaching out to share how your generosity during Big Give Day on October 8-9, 2024 has directly helped students at Portland Community College. 

Your contributions during Big Give Day have played a vital role in empowering our Healthcare and Emergency Professions students to pursue their dreams and excel in their chosen fields. 

Together we were able to accomplish the following for the: 

• Total Amount Raised: $2,028.41

How These Funds Have Been Used:

• Supported Nursing students attending the National Student Nursing Association convention to take part in valuable networking opportunities and educational sessions.
• Helped Medical Laboratory Technology students meet the expanded drug screening requirement of their clinical sites.
• Assisted with the costs of background check, drug screening, and immunization requirements preparing Emergency Medical Services students to gain essential experience with ambulance services and hospitals.
• Provided a skeleton model for a visual and tactile example to explain proper alignment and safe movements in Physical Education courses such as weight training, barre fitness, stretch, roll and release/back health, yoga and ballet.
• Sponsored professional development for the Foods and Nutrition faculty department chair to further her trauma informed approach, be attuned to the needs of neurodiverse students, and support faculty in building this awareness.
• Purchased the HSRT (Health Sciences Reasoning Test) for dental hygiene applicants. These assessments are used in the admissions process to evaluate critical thinking skills, which are essential for student success in both the program and clinical practice.

The impact of your support was huge. One student wrote that "Financial stress is the biggest barrier to school for me, so having that exam paid for was a huge relief. I would have scraped and clawed my way into paying for it if I had to, but this benefit helped me avoid the stress of finding those funds. Also, the lack of payment required helps ensure that everyone who qualifies can be considered for entry into the program rather than just those who can afford it." This is all possible because of supporters like you. Thank you!
