The Hyannis House: Center for Care and Community proudly serves as a space for relaxing, coworking, gathering with friends, connecting with campus and accessing resources for all UNCA community members, especially LGBTQ+ and BIPOC students. Since officially reopening last semester, we have hosted programs that have brought dozens of students, staff, faculty and community members into the space. Event highlights include our Homecoming Open House that brought alumni to our improved space, an impactful student poetry reading, and a discussion series in collaboration with the Career Center on intersectionality in the workplace. We have seen increased use by student organizations and have welcomed Blue Ridge Pride and a Dean of Students Case Manager into our offices. We also consistently work to improve and upgrade our space; we have recently added a student-created sign on University Heights, a new Food Equity Initiative fridge providing our community with free fresh produce, and a dedicated display of WNC LGBTQIA+ Archive materials showcasing under-represented stories from our region's history.
