What Does “First-Gen” Mean? 

A "first-gen" student is defined as someone whose parents did not complete a 4-year college degree. But to us, being first-gen means being a trailblazer. Navigating university without family support often means trying to understand the "hidden curriculum" alone. From understanding financial aid to learning how to balance a personal life, work, and academics, FGSO hopes to become a place where students can learn all these things and build a community that understands the struggles of being first-gen.
