The Pirates for Pirates Challenge is happening now, and this is your opportunity to give back with your support of Women's Lacrosse!
Last season, we had two athletes receive All-SAA awards: Hannah Colvin earned Second Team Goalie, and Peyton Shindler garnered Sportsmanship honors. Colvin broke three school records in single-game saves with 22 against Oglethorpe University, single-season saves with 186 on the year, and saves per game at 13.30.
We also received recognition for our academic achievements, including the Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, which honored the team with a prestigious Academic Honor Squad designation for maintaining a team GPA of 3.2 or higher. Along with the team honor, Sydney Martin, Cecilia Sheff, Katie Pratt, Kati Rzasnicki, and Elaina Seeley were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. Elaina Seeley, Katie Pratt, Kati Rzasnicki, Sydney Martin, Cecilia Sheff, and Hannah Colvin qualified for the At-Large Division College Sports Communications Academic All-District.
Please save the date for our spring Alumni Game on February 6! We are looking forward to a fun weekend together and our upcoming season. Our incoming class includes 7 first-years and 1 transfer from the University of Southern California Club Lacrosse team. We are thrilled to have so many recruited athletes this season. The program is in a transition period with all the new offerings for our athletes, including new custom-branded sticks. This team will get to be the first to compete at the new multi-purpose sports complex!
Our coaching efforts have expanded adding Kiera Armitage as a volunteer coach who played Midfield for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Alumni continue to make an impact on our program, with Sky George '23, Johnee Wolter '20, and Raquel Kurth '24 returning to coach this year. Liana Collins '24 also recently presented about all services available through the Center for Career and Professional Development. We've also partnered with a sports psychologist to develop the whole person, not just the athlete.
For this upcoming season, we truly need your support to continue to offer an exceptional experience for our athletes. We will have three flights this spring and take some time for team bonding activities while on the road. Last season, we enjoyed a trip to the Illusion Museum in Atlanta, GA. We'll also need to rent charter buses to travel between schools during the winter. We would like to purchase a new full gold kit and have a second set of pennies to rotate.
Our goal this year is to have 65 donors during the Pirates for Pirates Challenge. When we reach our goal, I'll throw a pizza party for the team. Karen Hanson Flowers '75 P '13 is offering a matching gift opportunity to double your impact, giving $1 for $1, up to $500!
Gifts of all sizes collectively impact our programs and elevate the experience each athlete receives. Make your gift today to support Women's Lacrosse. Please encourage friends and family to join you during this time in support of our program!
Thank you and Go Pirates!
