HPAIRI student interns/mentees and tribal program partnership has been key to student success at University of Wyoming. Students have stayed connected to their tribal homelands, community, natural and cultural resources through mentorship, Tribal Resource Management 1 week summer fieldcourse on the Wind River Indian Reservation, and interning in programs such as the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative, Eastern Shoshone Northern Arapaho Tribal Fish & Game, Northern Arapaho Tribal Historic Preservation Office, Trout in the Classroom, US Fish & Wildlife Service, and Greater Yellowstone Coalition. UW interns now work in various tribal departments as the WRTBI Science Director, Education Director, Financial Director, CEO of the Wind River Casino, Teacher in the Wind River Community K-12 schools, Traditional Cultural Specialists, GIS coordinator, and Central Wyoming College. We are working hard to continue this pathway for students to return to their tribal community with education tools and knowledge to empower their nations. HPAIRI has recently secured space to open an Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge STEAM language & Indian education for all lab at CWC.
