The Native Plant Restoration Coalition (NPReC) is a student organization dedicated to increasing the use of ecologically and culturally valuable native plants on Whitman's campus. In the spring of 2023, they cleared invasive English Ivy along College Creek next to Fouts Art Center. The site was replanted with native grasses, snowberry, coyote willow, mock orange, and other plants sourced from the CTUIR's tribal plant nursery.

This project was previously funded through ASWC, tools were loaned to students by the Blue Mountain Land Trust and the Organic Garden graciously watered the site over the summer.

The NPReC now hopes to acquire tools for student projects, clear and replant more sites on campus, and maintain current plantings through future seasons.

EcoReps Program
The Sustainability Department is excited to be debuting the EcoReps program this year! EcoReps is a sustainability outreach and education program led by environmentally conscious students who aim to inspire and educate their peers about sustainable practices. Through this program, students collaborate to raise awareness about environmental issues, promote eco-friendly behaviors, and share valuable insights on topics like recycling, energy conservation, and sustainable living. By engaging with their fellow students, these peer educators foster a sense of responsibility and inspire positive change, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious campus community. The department currently has two EcoReps serving the campus.
