Exclusive pi-zero production and Compton scattering at GlueX

Hometown: Abingdon, Virginia

Department: Physics

Advisor: Justin Stevens

In order to quantifiably understand Quantum Chromodynamics, my Honors Thesis will measure the sigma beam asymmetry in linearly-polarized photon-proton collisions using data collected from Jefferson Lab. This will determine whether phenomenological calculations are suitable for Compton scattering and pi-zero production. My analysis of these two specific reactions will help significantly with the study of meson production and will provide a better understanding of the strong nuclear force.
