Investigating Post-Translational Modification of Transcription Factor in Gastric Cancer Risk Contributor, Heliobacter pylori, via Bottom-Up Proteomics

H. pylori is a bacterium that resides in human gastric systems, leading to an increased risk of developing gastric cancer and peptic ulcers. It uses adhesin proteins to stick to gastric epithelial cells and represses transcription of the corresponding genes when the environment becomes harmful. My Honors Thesis will investigate post-translational modification of the transcription factor, ArsR, that represses transcription of the SabA adhesin gene to better understand the signaling involved.
