Supporting Survivors at The Haven
This campaign ended on May 17, 2017, but you can still make a gift to William and Mary by clicking here!

Provide: To provide support for the Haven’s student advocate training expenses.

The Haven is a peer-based confidential, welcoming, and inclusive resource center for those impacted by sexual violence and harassment, relationship abuse and intimate-partner violence, stalking, and other gender-based discrimination. We welcome all who may have questions or concerns, who need support and resources, and who are seeking guidance and connection. Survivors, and those who support them, can drop by whenever The Haven is open to get support, talk about options, hear about on and off campus resources available to survivors, or to just relax in a safe space. The Haven advocates can also provide information about the WM reporting process and school accommodations.

The Haven is staffed by over 30 confidential student advocates who undergo 32 hours of training throughout the academic year. This project would support the core student advocate training and ongoing education for students in this vital role. Training is critical in order to ensure that volunteers respond appropriately and understand on and off campus resources. Your support helps students learn about: listening, empathy, and communication skills; crisis intervention; sexual violence 101; intimate partner violence 101, trauma-informed advocacy, civil and criminal legal remedies, WM policies and procedures; Title IX; and working with diverse survivors.

With more funding, we can purchase resources at The Haven to include art supplies, books, magazines, therapeutic toys, and journals. With less money, we will invest in trainings and meetings to foster well-trained student advocates.

Goal Not Met: Less support for project.

Goal Exceeded: Additional funds will provide resources for The Haven, such as art supplies, books, magazines, therapeutic toys and journals.
