Falling Backward: Trauma and Loss in 20th Century American Literature

Hometown: Bethesda, Maryland

Department: English

Advisor: Varun Begley

For my project, I intend to travel to the Small Collections at the University of Virginia to access Faulkner’s original manuscripts, journals, and personal papers, as well as to his working library from his time as the writer-in-residence there.  Likewise, I intend to travel to the Lily Library at Indiana University, where many of Vonnegut’s original manuscripts and journals are held.  This research would lend me insight into the way in which these authors developed their style and compositional technique, adding depth to my analysis of the construction of a trauma narrative.
