Investigating and Modeling Stromal-Cancer Interactions on Autophagy Activity in Renal Carcinomas

Hometown: Chantilly, Virginia

Department: Biology

Advisor: Lizabeth Allison

Cancer cells communicate with their surrounding tumor microenvironment to initiate aberrant tumor growth and behaviors. Within this environment, stromal cells play a critical role in supporting carcinogenesis and metastasis. They may be doing so by misregulating autophagy, a metabolic process that degrades intracellular material in response to stress. I will investigate and build a data driven model to analyze and predict the spatiotemporal effects of stromal-cancer interactions on autophagy.
