Structural Geology of the Blue Ridge Tunnel, Rockfish Gap, Virginia

Hometown: Chesapeake, Virginia

Department: Geology

Advisor: Christopher Bailey

My honors thesis will examine thin areas of shearing and faulting in the Blue Ridge Tunnel to see the kinematic changes these greenstones have experienced over millions of years. The results of this work will be turned into field guides, educational outdoor signs, and historical markers describing both the structural geology of the tunnel, as well as the historical narratives of the Irish immigrants and African-American slaves who toiled on this tunnel for years with little recognition.

All William & Mary Honors Fellowships fundraising supports the Charles Center Honors Fellowships Fund. Direct support for individual undergraduate research projects is distributed by the Roy R. Charles Center for Academic Excellence.
