"Strengthened by Worth": Economic and Moral Value in The Blazing World and Pamphilia to Amphilanthus

Hometown: Naperville, Illinois

Department: English

Advisor: Erin Webster

My project will examine the work of two seventeenth century female writers, Margaret Cavendish and Mary Wroth, through the lens of classical Smithian Economics. I will use Smith's ideas to explore how these writers defined economic and moral value at a time where English societal values were rapidly changing. My research not only bring these understudied writers to critical light, but also engages them in an original, interdisciplinary way.
